FRIENDS OF THE WHANGANUI RIVER
The Kauarapaoa Valley is quite close to Wanganui but seems a world away. Esther Williams will share her stories of living in the valley and we will have a barbecue lunch (bring your drinks) in the garden of Jill Mayo, a long-time resident of the Valley. Later we visit a covenanted private forest reserve with carpets of kidney ferns under gnarly black beech trees and the district's only known NZ Sandalwood. We also view the impressive gorge the Kauarapaoa Stream has carved into the soft papa country.
